The is the home page of the South African Roasters Association/Community:
Key aspects of the association:
- The community should be non competitive. It should promote and further the development of knowledge around coffee, and coffee roasting.
- The community is interested in meeting once a quarter or when there is special visitor that is visiting a roastery, that other roasters may want to meet.
- The events should hosted on a rotation system, so that those that want to host an event are more than welcome too.
- Non competitive comparison roasting would be a good example of inviting input from other roasters, where those interested in roasting the same coffee the way they like it can share it with other fellow roasters.
- The community should look to the approach of the Nordic cup to see ways to promote the community.
- Using fellow roasters as a sounding board in an informal setting is something else people showed interest in.
- Having access to a community that is able to share their contacts in servicing their roasters would assist all roasters as part of the community
- There should be no entrance fee, just the fact that you roast coffee is a criteria, however events that have a cost associated should notify the community upfront.
- At each event if you are keen bring something for others to try, this will be welcomed.
