Update Now
Before doing anything else, please can you update your subscriber details now. We use Mail Chimp to store all info, until there is something better. So your subscription details are used for storing:
- your roaster details,
- options regarding roaster part sharing
- whether you are interested in importing green coffee with other members of the association (we have had a number of suppliers approach us to ask if we can consolidate through the association) and
- the options around this choice
I have tried to integrate the Mail Chimp user list with the SARoasters.co.za list with limited success. Please remember therefore that there are 2 name lists. One which sends out the emails and one that allows you to interact on the saroasters.co.za website. If you think someone you know who roasts is not getting these emails then they are not on the Mail Chimp list, forward this email to them.
Next Event
Both Cape Town and Johannesburg/Gauteng have venues and dates for the next South African roasters association/group event.

In Cape Town the next event will be held at the Devils Peak Brewery Tap room on the Monday 21st of September in Johannesburg this event will be on the Monday 5th of October, at Genio’s workshop.
Both events start at 18:30, and it has been suggested that we do blind tasting of coffees from different regions of the world. We will taste at least 4 coffees, unless more are donated. If you have a coffee from Central America, and a coffee from South America that you would like to donate at least 250g then when you RSVP to either cptevent@saroasters.co.za or jhbevent@saroasters.co.za, please offer that at the same time. We will try and get the coffee before the event so that the coffees will be blind.
I also suggest that instead of us all brewing our own coffee, that we brew 4/5 cups of each coffee and then we use cupping spoons to taste. We will need assistance in setting these up. Are there any preferences in brewing method? We can cup or do Aeropress or Hario or whatever, as long as we have assistance.
Promoting a fellow SA Roaster
Espresso lab has asked if any of you are okay with voting for them, please see his request below:

“I fully respect this is possibly not the correct forum to address this, but we need your help.
Recently we entered a world-wide competition hosted by Marco Beverage Systems to win a SP9 coffee brewer.
We have been selected as one of five finalists and are now currently trying to drum up support for the win. This is not a popularity competition of who makes the best coffee, merely a popular vote of who can trend the following hashtag #SP9ELM the most.
For the win, we need you to vote by using the hashtag #SP9ELM on Twitter, or comment using the same # on the following Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/MarcoBeverageSystems
The brewer is an expensive piece of kit that we would not ordinarily afford to buy, hence we are trying our level best to win.
Any help afforded in bringing this lovely brewer here to South Africa would be greatly appreciated. Should we win, we would love to host the next roasters gathering and brew copious amounts of coffee for you and whoever wants to attend.”
